Masaryktown, FL. - Funeral services will be held at 11 am Saturday at the Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel for Robert "Bob" Vernon who died Sunday morning at his residence after a short battle with cancer. Bob was born March 22, 1937 in Uniontown, PA. the son of Robert L and Carrie (Utterback) Vernon. He had formerly lived in Berlin Center until moving to Florida.
Bob was a proud and loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, mentor, advisor and friend. He was a long time resident of Berlin Center and a business owner in the Youngstown area until his retirement.
He was a 32nd degree Mason and was an active member of Kiwanis for over 25 years. Bob was past president of Jackson-Milton Kiwanis Club and then became a Charter member of Western Mahoning County Kiwanis Club. Bob had a passion for thoroughbred horses and he was a breeder and owner of multiple winners in Ohio and Florida.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife Mary Lou (Gillespie) Vernon. He is survived and will be missed by his fiancée Patti Alvarez, his daughter Linda Vernon-Gareau, sons Robert L. (Deanna) Vernon Jr., Mike (Lisa) Vernon, nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Bob is also survived by his sisters; Evelyn Blevins, Charlotte Martin, Donna Greenoway and brother Bill Vernon.
Family and friends may call from 5-8 pm Friday and from 9am Saturday until time of services at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you consider donations in Bob's name to the HPH Hospice organization that was so helpful in caring for him during this difficult time @ 12107 Majestic Blvd. Hudson, Florida 34667.
