Funeral services will be 12 pm Saturday at Old North Church in Canfield for Martin Wilhelm of Canfield who died Friday morning November 17th in an auto accident in Trinidad. Marty was born August 11, 1959 in Youngstown the son of Harold L. (Bud) and the late Ida Marie Thiel Wilhelm.

Marty was the owner of Youngstown Iron & Metal in Youngstown and Atlas Recycling in Warren. He graduated from Canfield High School, was a member of Argus Lodge # 545, Youngstown Shrine Club, member of ISRI, and was currently Committee Chairman for Troop 25 Canfield Boy Scouts. He was involved with the scouting program for 16 years. Marty loved the outdoors; he loved to hike, backpack and enjoyed camping. He was a licensed pilot and had his own plane; he also loved to scuba dive and was a World Traveler visititing many different countries.

Marty is survived by his father Harold and step mother Nancy. He leaves his wife Joanne (Patterson) Wilhelm whom he married May 22, 1981, sons; Matthew M. and Christopher L. Wilhelm brother Scott in Florida and sister Christine Burkholder of Congress Lake, OH. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews

Family and friends may call from 2-4 & 5-8 pm Friday at the Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel.

The family requests any material gifts be in the form of contributions to the newly established Martin L. Wilhelm Charitable Account. This account will be the basis for a foundation that will keep Marty’s dreams alive. The foundation will provide funds for university scholarships, environmental projects, and a commitment to youth through the Boy Scouts program.
